Keen Pauline ran with the best and proved her high class, winning the G2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes at Pimlico as a 3-year-old.  Always well thought of, the flashy chestnut homebred was a $475,000 RNA at the 2013 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, and was sent to trainer Dale Romans.  Unplaced in her juvenile debut, won by the future G1 winner Lady Eli, Keen Pauline broke her maiden second time out at Churchill in a dead heat with Streetheart. In her third start she was second in an allowance race at Churchill beating future G1 winner I’m a Chatterbox for the place. The next season, Keen Pauline won the 9 furlong G2 Black-Eyed-Susan by 2 ¾ lengths defeating Include Betty and Ahh Chocolate.

Keen Pauline is by the outstanding sire Pulpit, whose offspring include a dozen G1 winners led by Tapit, Pyro, Rutherienne, Corinthian, Mr Speaker, Ice Box, Purge, Sky Mesa and Lord Nelson.  Pulpit is also now a top broodmare sire. His daughters have produced runners like Real Solution, Karlovy Vary, Deparitng, Newsdad, Medefromlucky, Good Samaritan and many others.

Keen Pauline’s dam is the unraced Grand Pauline, which Stonestreet purchased as a yearling for $360,000 at the 2006 Saratoga sale.  She’s by Two Punch out of the multiple black-type producer Grand Sophisticate, whose other foals include stakes winner Grand Appointment, G3-placed Enchanted Woods, plus stakes-placed Vanilla Scoop and Sophisticated Miss.  The next dam is the top producer Sophisticated Girl, dam of G2 winner Doneraile Court, and granddam of G2 winners Souvenir Copy and Dance Sequence.

Grand Pauline is also the dam of winners Yea It’s Today (by Yes It’s True) and Midseason Form (by Tapit). Her most recent foals include Old Faithful (2014 c. by Hard Spun), a $220,000 Keeneland September yearling, a 2015 filly by Arch, and a 2016 filly by leading freshman sire Union Rags.

Keen Pauline delivered her first foal in 2018, a colt by Medaglia d’Oro. The athletic colt would go on to sell for $1,200,000 to Qatar Racing at the 2019 Keeneland September Sale.
