Hot Dixie Chick always drew attention to herself.  Bred by Santa Rosa partners, she was a $340,000 Saratoga yearling, and a $435,000 two-year-old.  She was one of the first fillies to race in the name of Barbara Banke’s Grace Stables (which is an acronym for “Girls Rule and Competently Endure”), and the first headliner for the new string.

Never out of the money in seven starts, Hot Dixie Chick broke her maiden at Churchill by 5 ¾ lengths.  She won the G3 Schuylerville at Saratoga by 6 ¼ lengths, and the G1 Spinaway at the same track.  At three, she opened with a handy 5 ¾ length victory in the Prima Donna Stakes at Oaklawn, then was third in the G3 Eight Belles and G3 Winning Colors Stakes, both at Churchill.  She closed her career with earnings of $343,252.

Hot Dixie Chick’s dam is the good racemare Above Perfection (by In Excess (IRE)), winner of the G3 Las Flores Handicap and 3 other stakes as well as second in the G1 Prioress Stakes.

Her first foal was the speedy Union Jackson . By Curlin, he won the Sam Houston Sprint Cup Stakes and the Iowa Sprint Handicap. He was also graded stakes-placed in the G3 Aristides. Union Jackson retired with a record of 6/1/2 in 11 starts and earnings of $273,874.

In 2017, Hot Dixie Chick’s half-brother by Bodemeister burst onto the Kentucky Derby scene after an emphatic victory in the G1 Florida Derby. Always Dreaming went on to win the G1 Kentucky Derby on the first Saturday in May.

Hot Dixie Chick delivered a filly by leading sire Tapit in 2018. The talented gray filly, later named Pauline’s Pearl, earned won the 100th graded stakes victory by a Stonestreet bred horse when she conquered the 2022 G1 La Troienne Stakes, defeating multiple graded stakes winner Shedaresthedevil. Pauline’s Pearl boasts additional victories in the G2 Fleur de Lis Stakes, G3 Fantasy Stakes, G3 Houston Ladies Classic Stakes, and Zia Park Oaks.

Hot Dixie Chick passed away at 18 years old in 2025.
