Teen Pauline

Race by Stonestreet Stables | Training Graduate

Graded stakes-winning Stonestreet homebred Teen Pauline is a daughter of North America’s Leading Sire Tapit and out of the mare Effectual, by Carson City. Brilliant from the start, Teen Pauline won first time out as a juvenile at Saratoga, setting a new track record (:56.53) for 5 furlongs and winning by 4 3/4 lengths. In her next outing, she ran third in the Grade 1 Spinaway Stakes, her only other race at 2.

The dark bay filly, named for Barbara Banke’s mother Pauline, returned at 3 in June, when fourth in an allowance and fourth again in the Victory Ride Stakes. Teen Pauline won a turf allowance at Saratoga. Second in the Riskaverse Stakes and third in the Pebbles Stakes, also on turf, she was third when switched back to dirt in the late season Comely Stakes. She opened her campaign at 4 with an easy wire-to-wire score on New Year’s Day in the Affectionately Stakes and registered a ten-plus length victory in the Ladies Handicap later in the month. In March, she made it 3 in a row with another victory, making all the fractions in the Grade 2 Top Flight Handicap.

Teen Pauline retired with a record of 5 wins from 13 starts and earnings of $464,860, from her record-setting debut at 5 furlongs to a win in the Ladies Handicap at 9 furlongs with wins on dirt and turf.

Teen Pauline is a daughter of the stallion phenom Tapit, sire of champions like Untapable, Stardom Bound and Hansen among his many stakes winners. She is the second foal to race out of her dam, Grade 3 Debutante Stakes winner Effectual, who was purchased by Stonestreet at the 2009 Keeneland November Sale for $475,000 carrying Teen Pauline.

Teen Pauline has produced two winners from two foals to race: Principled (2016 by Medaglia d’Oro), who broke his maiden in his second start at Belmont, and Cambria (2017 by Speightstown), who earned her first stakes victory with a determined win in the Kentucky Downs Juvenile Turf Sprint Stakes against males.

Teen Pauline’s 2019 foal, a colt by leading sire Into Mischief, sold for $1,000,000 to Peter Leidel at the 2020 Keeneland September Sale.
