Debate, a dark bay gelding, was bred by Stonestreet and foaled in March of 2010. With a promising pedigree, by Unbridled’s Song and out of Smooth as Silk, he graduated from the Training Center, but ultimately remained unraced due to injury.
Stonestreet Farm donated Debate to Alex Green in October of 2013. Alex, the head trainer at Dry Ridge Farm just outside of Knoxville, TN, has been a great advocate for thoroughbreds looking for a new career. One of Alex’s students, a 16-year-old named Kayla, fell in love with Debate, relocating the gelding to her family farm in Georgia.
Debate, now nicknamed “Rue”, is cared for and trained on the family’s farm. After discovering that Rue loved to jump, Kayla began training him to become a Three Day Eventer. Three Day Eventing is a competition in which a single rider and horse compete in three different disciplines; dressage, cross-country, and show jumping. So far, Rue has competed in several local shows and the pair has their sights set on their first full three-day event next spring.
Kayla and her family provided Rue with a new life and even a new companion, Louie the donkey. While racing was not on the cards, Rue has landed in his perfect home with a promising new career in eventing. We wish Kayla and Rue the best of luck and we look forward to seeing them both compete next spring!
