Albergatti

Albergatti, the big, beautiful gray and half to champion, My Miss Aurelia, has a new home with Meganne Brezina. On the track, Albergatti raced as a Stonestreet homebred and won in his second start at Santa Anita Park. He became stakes placed with a runner-up finish in the 2011 Northern Spur at Oaklawn Park.

Albergatti entered the New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program after he was retired from racing. In December of 2013 he found his new home with Meganne, and she found the horse of her own she had dreamed of since she was a child, in the attractive 17-hand Albergatti.

Affectionately called “Dante” in his new life off the track, Albergatti is now at at Grandview Stables near Indianapolis. Diana Renihan, a former Thoroughbred trainer on the track, now oversees this hunter, jumper, and equitation
facility which has been in her family for over 60 years.

Diana knows that Thoroughbreds are a more difficult sell in the eventing world than Warmbloods, but says that despite his youth, “Albergatti is not like a hot Thoroughbred, he is quiet, and he has a great work ethic,” Diana said.

Shortly after he arrived at Grandview, Albergatti exhibited some lameness which was corrected with some chiropractor work. During that time he was not under tack, and Diana and Meaganne worked on building their relationship with Albergatti with extensive groundwork. Today, he is ridden five to six times a week and is even doing some crosspole training.

As Meganne and Diana help guide Albergatti toward his new career, he is starting to muscle up and put good weight on his big frame while he does basic foundation work like bending and even some crosspole work. A 2008 son of the late Unbridled’s Song out of My Miss Storm Cat, Albergatti has even learned to bow on command.
